The Witcher 3 in Ukrainian: official translation arrived in the September 2026 update

The updated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered (29 September 2026) has official Ukrainian text and subtitles, but no Ukrainian voice-over. What changed and whether you still need a fan translation.

A few weeks ago the honest answer would have been no: Geralt's games went years without Ukrainian. Now it is yes. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered has official Ukrainian text and subtitles. There is no Ukrainian voice-over.

What we know about the update

CD Projekt RED announced it at Opening Night Live during Gamescom, and it arrived on 29 September 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. According to dev.ua, it is free for everyone who already owns the game. Steam now lists Ukrainian in the language table:

Polishyesyesyes
Englishyesyesyes

You can keep the voices in Polish or English; both are complete.

What it was like before

In December 2022, when the next-gen version launched, Ukrainian players were upset about the missing language, especially as the studio was fixing the Russian dub at the time (per ITC.ua and dev.ua). The only workaround was a fan translation. One of them is on Nexus Mods, where its author said around four fifths of the text was translated (project page). We have not checked the current state of that mod.

How to switch it on

Open the in-game options and pick Ukrainian for the text in the language section. Set the voice language separately. If the option is missing, make sure Steam has finished downloading the latest update.

Do you still need the fan translation?

No, the official text replaces it. If you installed a third-party mod earlier, it is better to remove it and use the built-in language, since the official text is updated together with the game.

A note for those searching for a Russian patch

Russian is already official in the game, with text, subtitles and voice, so no separate install is needed. If you were hunting for a patch because you saw no other option, Ukrainian subtitles are built in now, and there is nothing to look for elsewhere.

Separately, the paid expansion Songs of the Past, planned for 2027, will also get Ukrainian localization, according to dev.ua.

Renting The Witcher 3

You can take the game from us: a Steam account for a month, offline. It is a long single-player RPG, so a month of rental usually works unless you chase every side quest. See how it works for the details.
