Is there a Ukrainian translation for Hogwarts Legacy and how to install it

Hogwarts Legacy has no official Ukrainian. The community built its own: the kuli.com.ua localization catalog lists a text translation called "Ukrainian patch from a powerful community". It leaves the voice-over alone, so the characters keep speaking English or whichever language you choose.

What Steam lists

Full voice-over exists in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese.

Why players made one themselves

Before the game launched in early 2023, Ukrainian players asked the publisher for a localization. According to novyny.live, they got no real answer: the developers said they were busy preparing for release. Official Ukrainian still hasn't been added, so the community stepped in.

What we know about the translation

Per the catalog, the project was started by Artem "RippeR" Zadorozhnii and AgeNTsGame, with RippeR and Smile Hamster as editors. The project page says 711 people took part, spending 347 hours on roughly 523,640 words. It is 99% complete and was last updated on 5 September 2024. It covers text only.

How to install it

The catalog describes two methods; the first is the simplest:

1. Set the game's language to English.
2. Copy the file pakchunk100-Ukrainian_P.pak into Phoenix/Content/Paks inside the game folder.
3. Launch the game. Ukrainian text should replace the English.

There is also a version from Godless with automatic updates, set up following the guide on the page. On Steam Deck the file goes into the same folder, and the catalog explains how to reach it. It says the translation works with Steam, Steam Deck and Xbox Game Pass.

If you were searching for a Russian patch

The game officially has Russian text, but no Russian voice-over. If you were after a "russifier" for Hogwarts Legacy, know that an alternative exists: the community's Ukrainian translation, 99% finished.

What to keep in mind

The translation is unofficial, so game updates could in theory break it; check the last-updated date on its page. If the text disappears after a game update or the game won't start, remove the .pak file from the Paks folder and the game goes back to English.

Renting Hogwarts Legacy

The game is in our catalog: a Steam account for a month, offline. Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player RPG and doesn't need a connection. How it works.
